[BbDTEB’S AGENCY.] Money. London, Oct. 6. . The Bank of England has to-day day raised its rate of discount to 5 per cent. Three per cent consols hare further declined and are quoted to-day at 99J. New Zealand securities are unchanged. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is 4^40,900,Q00. Bank rate of discount, 9 por cent ; market rate, 4£. Wheat- ' Colonial bread stuffs are without quotable shange. Adelaide wheat, ex store, 69s ; New Zealand do., 675; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 42s 6d. TallowAustralian tallow is firm at 39s 6d for best beef; 43s for best mutton. ‘ Frozen Meat. The mutton brought per the steam.
ship Orient, from Australia, has realised an average of 6d per lb at the Smithfield market. The condition of the meat was superior to that of previous shipments. IronBest Scotch pig Iron has further advanced Is per ton. No. 1 f.o.b. in Clyde, is quoted to-day at 555. Wool. . The third series of wool sales closed to-day. The final catalogue comprised 7900 hales, for which a firm demand was experienced, making a total of 340,000 bales offered* Since the opening 28,000 bales have been withdrawn. 45,000 are held over for the next series, which commence on November 22. Zulus on the War Path. Got. 7. The “ Standard ” of this morning publishes a telegram from the Capo stating that the report is current there that a serious rising of the natives tribes has broken out in Zululand. The Boers DissatisfiedCapetown, Oct. 5. Telegrams received to-day from Pretoria announce that the Yolksraad has concluded its consideration of the report of the Committee appointed to decide upon the ratification or rejection of the Transvaal Convention, and it has further transpired that, in accordance with the orders of the Volksraad President Krugor has telegraphed to the Imperial authorities in London that it has been decided that the Convention is contrary to the spirit of the Sand Elver Treaty. Protest is, moreover, made against the provisions of several of the clauses of the convention, and their modification is requested. Important NewsCairo, Oct. 6. The members of the Commission de. spatebed by the Sultan from Constantinople to the Khedive arrived in this city to-day, and were accorded a ceremonial reception.
