(Peb Pbess Association.) Church of England. , . Auckland, Oct. 3. Tim Diocesan Synod was opened this afternoon. The Bishop Jn, his. address said the clergy of the Diocese, including 13 Maoris, numbered 57, an increase of four during the W ith reference to religions teaching in public, schools he said parents should be allowed during school hours and by jneans of teachers approved by themselves, to give their own children definite teaching in those religious-truths..in which they believed. He spoke warmly of the debt of gratitude due to the New Testament revisers, ns by the help-of the revised edition lay; readers a-nd Sunday.school teachers and all unable to read the original Greek may arrive - at the, teaching of New Testament ,writers with a facility that was quite'unknown before. Hie New Zealand clergy, however, according to tbe Constitution of'the Church, could not use the revised Version until it had been adopted by the Convocation of Canterbury, and when- it is so adopted it will he-fdr tbe General Synod of NewZealand to declare for or against its use in public service.- .
