TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION.
An enthuiastic meeting was held to-day at the Grosvenor Hotel, for the purpose of forming a Teachers’ Association.
Mr Ward (Waimate), was unanimously voted to the chair, and in his opening remarks stated the object for which the meeting was being held. After a discussion of a conversational nature, Mr Hughes (Geraldine) proposed, and Mr Ligertwood seconded—- “ That in the opinion of this meeting the time has arrived when united action of teachers should be taken to establish an Association, and that this meeting form itself into a Committee for the furtherance of this object.’’ This resolution met with the unanimous approval of those present and after some necessary arrangements it was resolved that the first meeting of the Association, should be held on October 29, to consider the rules advisable to adopt, for election of officers and an inaugural address to be delivered by Mr Scott (Timaru). The Secretary, Mr Ritchey was instructed to write to the Timaru School Committee, asking the use of a class room for the purpose of holding the meetings there.
After the uoual vote of thanks the meeting dispersed. The certain success of this very necessary Association in the interests of teachers and education io confidently anticipated, ___________
