PAINFUL ACCIDENT.
A shocking accident, the result of the careless handling of firearms, occurred about five o'clock last evening, by which Mrs Hamilton, wife of Stewart Hamilton, boarding house keeper, High street, was very painfully and dangerously wounded. It appears that some men came to stay at the house from Waimate during the afternoon, and one of them produced a revolver and dagger to show to his host. (The men came up with the idea of enlisting in the A.C. Force.) Mr Hamilton took the revolver, and while handling it pulled the trigger. One or more of the chambers were loaded and one went off, the ball entering Mrs Hamilton’s groin. Of course all baste was made to find a doctor, and Dr Lovcgrove was found without much delay. The. poor woman had bled profusely and was very much exhausted. The wound proved on examination to be a very serious one ; and it was judged advisable to remove her to the Hospital, which was accordingly done. On making enquiries this rrorning wo learned that though Mrs Hamilton’s life is still in danger, she is making as good progress as could bo expected.
