In MourningAn official “Gazette” announces that the English Court has gone into mourning for one week for the late President Garfield. Such a course has never before been pursued in the case of the death of an American President. The City Corporation, at their sitting to-day, adopted an address of condolence with Mrs Garfield on the los of her husband. France and Tunis. Paris, Sept. 22. M. Roustan, the French Resident in Tnnis, who has been on a visit to this city, for the purpose of conferring with his Government in regard to the position of affairs in Tunis, has now returned to his post. President Arthur, Washington, Sept. 23. General Arthur, in his inaugural address on assuming office, expressed the hope that ho may profit by the good example and experience of the late President. He further states that he does not consider it necessary to call Parliament together at the present time. Pot and Kettle'RowCalcutta, Sept 22. Serious riots occurred yesterday at Mooltan, in the Punjauh, between a number of rival sects of the Native population. In the fighting which took place several temples and mosques were damaged, and many of the rioters were seriously injured. The disturbances lasted for some hours and were only quelled by the military, who were called out in force to disperse the rioters. A Mere ThreatSept. 22. Telegrams received to day from Candahar report that the Ameer has formed a new camp in the neighborhood of the city, and one which commands the roads to both Herat and Candahar. The Ameer’s army is stated to be greatly inferior to that of Ayoub.
