S. C. Tijies Office, Monday Evening. Mr Moss Jonaa reports as follows : Business during the week has been-Very brisk. ;

Horses--Few ate offering, and the market is very inactive, there being very few entered for sale. Although the demand has improved, prices are not tempting enough for owners to accept. He quotes good draught horses from £25 to £3O ; medium, £l2 to £ls; hacks, £8 up to £l6. There is enquiry for youug good draughts and light harness horses, and he could place a few good sorts of these. Cattle—Prime beef may be quoted at 25s ; medium, 22s 6d per lOOlbs. At Winchester Fair, on Wednesday, he sold 5 head prime bullocks at £8 10s ; 5 fat heifers at £8; 5 springing heifers at £5 per head. He conld dispose of a limited number of forward stores.

Sheep—Fat sheep—At Winchester Fair, on Wednesday, he disposed of a large number by auction and privately. The market is fairly supplied, and no improvement in prices' can be quoted. He told 220 fat cross-breds at Ms Gd ; and privately, 245 at 14s r 6d per head. PHme mutton may be quoted at 2id per Tb. Store sheep—Little or no business is doing in this class of stock. He has enquiries for half-bred and merino ewes with lamb. At’ Miss Riddle’s’ farm, on Monday, he held one of the most satisfactory sales of horses, sheep, and farm implements,'that has ’ taken place for some months. Every 1 lot submitted’realised first-class prices—Horses, £l9 to £29, up to £2(! ; sheep, lls 6d to 14s fid; farm drays, ploughs, harrows, &0,, at top value. Pigs—He sold 18 at lls, aud 9 at Bs, 9 at Gs each. No improvement can be quoted for any class of pigs ; in fact prices are lower than they were last week. Skins—On Thursday, at his wool sale rooms, he held his usual foitnightly sale. His cat aloguc consisted of over 1000. skins, all of which were cleared at pi ices as per quotations as under :—Butchers’ best crossbreds made 5s 10d, Gs to Gs 3d ; second quality, 4s 9d, 4s lOd, b> 5s 6.1 ; merino skins, 2s 3d, 2s Gd, 2s 9.1, 3.3 1,4 s, to 4s Gd ca ll ; inferior aud dry, 9d, Is ,to is 3d. He reports the sale of one-eighlh i f an acre, the property of Mr Marine; kan, at £320: quarter here section, High street; section No. 3S, Beach road, the property of Mr Jacob Hill, .at £3OO. He has several' enijUtrics for freehold and leasehold properties in Timaru at reasonable values. Miscellaneous. —His various furniture sales have been well atcnded,ahn the results uniformly satisfactory to vendors. On Saturday I.e held, a large sale of drapery,plated ware, See.,- when all lots submitted found purchasers at very satisfactory prices. A laree quality of farm produce was also disposed,of. He quotes : —Fowls, SsGdlo 4.3 per pair ; hen turkeys, 3s 9 1 to 4s Gd each ; ducks,. 4s per pair; sugar, 41 per lb ; hour, IGs per sack ; potatoes, £2 15s per ten ; bacon, 4£ to 7d, a large quantity was disposed cf at this figure, it being really good ; cheese, 41 to 44d ; butter, 7cl to 10J per Ip,

Messrs George Priest and Co, report as follow* for the w- ek ending .Saturday:— Flour, millers’, £l2 per ton ; sharps, 100 s per ton ; bran 85s p.r ton; potatoes, Derwent, 4Bs ■ o 50s per ton, seed potatoes, 55s per ton, with little demand ; carrots, 4s Gd per sack ; cheese, 5d per lb,; marmalade, 8s Gd per doz ; sundries jj&c., fair values. On Thursday they held a sale of sheepskins hides, and tallow, and ulaced at auction and privately about 800 sheepskins as follows :—Cross-bred skins, from 3s 3d to 5s 9d each ; merino skins, 2s to 4s Gd each, according to quality ; hides, per lb ; rough fat, 2d per lb. On Friday they offered at auction a large quantity of groceries, ironmongery, crockery, &c., when they had a huge attendance of the trade and others. Satisfactory prices were obtained for the different lots offered. ,Grain—Wheat-r Owing to- the small quantity coming forward and the millers holding light stocks, prices have considerably hardened since last report. They quote prime milling wheat at 4s 4d to 4s Gd per bushel; ordinary, 4s to 4s 3d per bushel j iDferior-and fowl wheat, -2s Gd 'to 3s per bushel.
