[Reuter’s Agency, j Financial. London, Sept. 8. Consols remain at 995. New Zealand securities are unchanged. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £12,400,000, The Bank rate of discount remains at 4 per cent, and the market rate at 3s. ' The Markets, Adelaide flour, ex store, is unchanged at 41s; Australian tallow, best beef, 37s 6d ; best mutton, 395. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, remains at 565; New Zealand, ex store, 55s ; Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, 41s. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1,860,000 quarters. Best Scotch pig iron, No. 1, free on board in the Clyde, is quoted at 48s 6d, being an advance of Is. At the wool auction to day 9,500 bales were offered making a total of 142,900 catalogued since the opening. A fair demand was shown for the various lots offered. The total number of bales withdrawn from the sales since the commencement of the series is 11,000. Sept. 9. Australian tallow, best beef, 38s 6d ; best mutton, 10s 6d. Cold Meat for the Londoners. A cargo of frozen meat, ex steamship Cuzco, was sold to-day. Beef realised from 4d to sid per lb, and mutton from 5d to 54d, the condition of which was not equal to that of the mutton brought by the Protos. The meat market at the present time is flat. Freedom of International Trade. The Trades Union Conference, which has just concluded its sittings, has passed resolutions denouncing the restriction placed by some foreign countries upon freedom of international trade. The President. Washington, Sept. 8. Later news from Long Branch regarding the President reports that the feverish symptoms which appeared shortly after his arrival have now been allayed, and his condition has improved. Financial Affairs of the Porte. Constantinople, Sept. 8. Meetings have recently been held in this city between the Ambassadors of the Great Powers at which parleying has taken place on the subject of the financial affairs of the Porte. The Conference has so far progressed satisfactorily, and has resulted in an agreement that a Council representing the foreign holders of Turkish bonds should have complete supervision and control of the indirect taxes of the Ottoman Empire.

Peremptory. Alexandria, Sept. 8. A serious disturbance occurred to-day at Cairo. A large body of Egyptian troops, with their officers, assembled be* fore the Palace of the Khedive and demanded that an assembly of notables should be called together, and the present Ministers dismissed. The Khedive, after consideration of the demand, caused the troops to be informed that he would grant the request for the dismissal of the Ministers. The officers and... their men then dispersed. The “ Devouring Element.” - New York, Sept. 6. Owing to the continuance of. dry weather, forest fires have occurred in the State of Michigan. Hundreds of farms have been completely destroyed by the conflagration, and over 200 deaths have resulted there from. The destruction of property is enormous, and thousands have been rendered homeless.
