WASHDYKE SCHOOL.

• A meeting of the Committee of (he above School was held on Monday evening, slh inst. Present—Messrs W. Balfour (Chairman), J. Gardner, J. Goldie, F. Watson, J, Mcßeth, .and W. Stevenson.

Minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Accounts amounting to £6 14s 4d were passed for payment. The Inspector’s report on the_ annual Standard examination, held on Jaly 11, 1881, was read as follows, and it was resolved that it be published. Attendance.—Number on roll, 4G ; average last quarter, 37 ; average last week, 3G ; present at examination, 37.

Results of examination in passes — Standard V., presented 2, passed 0 ; IV., presented 5, passed 0 ; HI., presented 6, passed 1 ; 11. ; presented 5, passed o ; 1., presented G, passed 5. Total : Presented 23 ; passed 11. Percentage of passes 47.8. GENERAL REMARKS —The results of the examination prove conclusively that the schoool lias been culpably neglected and the standard requirements systematically disregarded. The work throughout is extremely defective and in no wa} r improved since the last examination. Forty per cent of the scholars were not presented for the lowest standard and appear to have been deplorably neglected. Mr W, Cuthbert was in charge of the school for the yemended May 25. Mr Andrews, the present master, lias been in charge only six weeks, and cannot therefore be responsible for the results of the examination.

It was resolved that the school be closed until the end of the month owing to tiie prevalence of measles if the average should farther decrease.
