CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE

The following is the report for the week ending Friday, Sept. 9, I£Bl :

There is little or no alteration to note in the state of the market during the past week ; business has been quiet and much upon a par with the preceding one. Latest advices from England reporting a downward tendency in the value of wheat has had the effect of still further unsettling the market, and checking any disposition to speculation. The weather on the whole has been favorable, although on some lands there is too much wet, and in some cases the land has had to be re-sown.

Wheat —There is no change to report in values during the week; good milling samples are worth from 4s Gd to 4b 9d f.0.b.; second quality, 4s to la 3d f.0.b.; chick wheat, 2s 9d to 3s 3d per bushel in Christchurch.

Oats—There is no alteration to note in values; good stout milling samples, 2s 3d to 2s dd f.o.b ; feed quality, Is lOd to 2s in Christchurch.

Barky—The improve! demand which was visible last week is still apparent, fair to prime, 2s 9d to 353 1 per bushel ; medium quality, 2s 3d to 2s 6d ; feed, Is 9d to 2s per bushel, all these prices are delivered in Christchurch.

Potatoes—The intelligence from intercolonial ports has been of so discouraging a nature, that bu-incss in this article of prodncc-is completely at a standstill for the present, prices nominal. Grass treed—The demand has sensibly slackened, bub prices are unaltered, well cleaned'parcels are worth from 5s Gd to 6s per bushel. Cocksfoot 3JI to per lb. Cheese and Buiter—3d to for theformer, the latter is unsaleable.

The Auckland market has been glutted with Canterbury grown potatoes, and sales have to be made at figures that will barely pay expenses of transport, the average price being 30s.

Milling oats are quoted at 2s Gd to 2s 8d in Wellington ; feed at 2s 4d to 2s sd, plentiful supply ; feed barley, 2s 4d to 2s Gd.
