Oamaiiu, Sept. 7. The Augustus case was re-opened for hearing to-day before Mr I. N. Watt,. ,B M. The evidence of Sergeant-Major Thompson, Mrs Carter (the nurse),. Augustus’ son (a lad of ten years of age), and Detective O’Brien was taken. The

hearing of the case lasted all day. Tne boy Augustus admitted in evidence having seen his father hitting his mother ’.on the head with a bo'ot' after herffconfinement. His evidence was somewhat contradictory. When arrested the prisoner said to Detective O’Brien —“ I suppose the doctor has sent y° u ? would - 'nave been better for me to have cilt my throat the day I married that woman.” '
