TIMARU CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

—* The annual meeting of this Chamber

yesterday, was not largely attended. Mr Woollcombo took the chair in the absence of the official chairman, Captain Sutter.

The fourth annual report of the Chamber was read, and a balance sheet showing the income of the past year £sl 9s ; balance brought forward from previous year, £52 10s 2d ; expenditure during year, £33 14s 3d ; balance in hand, £7O 4s lid. The report recapitulated the chief items of business transacted by the Chamber during the east year. The revision of the rules with reference to the election of members ; the steps taken by the Chamber in the direction of procuring a town clock, an order for which, the Chamber were informed, had been given b3 r the present Premier : the election of Mr Evans as representative of the Chamber on the Harbor Board ; the applications to the Government renewed again and again, for increased railway accommodation ; and their co-operation with other Chambers in endeavors to introduce the decimal system, and in urging the Legislature to assimulate tjie procedure of the Supreme Court to that of the District Court.

The report and balance sheet were adopted. An addition was made by the adopted scale of charges after some discussion, by the following motion made by Mr Ziesler:—“ That in the maximum scale of mercantile charges of this Chamber the following addition be made after the words ‘ when goods are sold by auction’:—‘On clips of wool, value exceeding £IOOO, one per cent,’ ” The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mr B. Woolcombe; Vice-chairman, Mr W. Rutherford; Committee Messrs W. Moody,T. Hall, Jas Granger, H. Green, J, S. Gibson, J. H. Sutter, and G. H. Wildie ; Auditor, Mr E. H. Tate.

Mr E. W. Stubbs was re-appointed Secretary.
