CHRISTCHURCH CORN EXCHANGE Christchurch, Sept. 3. The following is the report for the week ending Frida}’, Sept. 2,1881 : Business in the grain market during the week has been exceedingly quiet. The continued upward tendency, of the wheat market at home is the all absorbing topic. Notwithstanding the prices locally, although undoubtedly considerably advanced, arc not relatively. Buyers are disinclined to operate. Wheat —Good shipping lines have been placed at from 4s 6d per bushel, f.o.b. ; second class samples 4s to 4s 3d ; chick wheat 2s 1) 1 to 3s 3d per bushel. Oats—Good stout milling samples are worth from 2s 31 to 2s 4d, f.o.b. ; feed quality, Is lOd to 2s per bushel. Barley—A rather better enquiry has been manifest during the week. Really first class samples are not in the market. Fair to prime malting quality such as is on older, rules from 2s 01 to 2s 3d per bushel ; medium, quality, 2s 31 to 2s 6d ; feed samples, Is 9d to 2s. Potatoes—There has been literally no business transacted during the week, quotations nominal.

Grass Seed—The demand is hardly so good, but prices arc without ah oration, viz., 5s 61 to 6s per bushel for good clean seed.

Cheese and Butler—3l to 34d for the former, the latter is almost unsaleable.
