Mr Thomas IJowley to-day resumed office as Clerk of the R.M. Court, Timaru rice Mr Allen.. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Timaru Harbor Board takes place tomorrow, at the usual time and place. Mr Moss Jocas instructed by Miss Riddle and the trustee in Michael Seyb’s estate, will hold an important sale of stock, farm implements &e., at the farm near Levels railway station, on Monday, Sept. 5-

The Rev. Frederick Seaborn gave the first of his series of readings at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Barnard street, last evening The audience was a most appreciative. The rev. gentleman made some interesting introductory remarks on poetry and poets, afterwards illustrating them by reading a number of pieces from popular poetical authors who have flourished from Elizabeth’s day to our own. The next reading entertainment will be given on Thursday.

At the Resident Magistrate’s Court Pvangiora, yesterday. W. Weir sued Dr MacCarthy for £2OO, costs and damages incurred through having to call in a second medical practitioner to break and ' set his child’s leg, which Dr MacCarthy had first attended. Counsel was employed on either side, and great interest was taken in the result of the case. Evidence was taken at great length, and the Bench gave judgment for £5 5s and costs. Counsel for defendant gave notice of appeal.

Messrs West and Bather, Architects, invite tenders for No 1 contract for the restoration of Green Hayes, near Terauka. The Main and Side Schools will rc-open on Monday next, Sept 5, at the usual hour.

Mr B. Hibbard has an announcement re Russian Tea which deserves the attention of tea drinkers.

Mr C. Patton, pianist, notifies that the Tradesmen’s Quadrille Assembly is held every Wednesday evening, at the Oddfellows Hall, Barnard street The last assembly was a very rjvl’ one. Mr Patton has recently engaged lie services of a first-rate quadrille band.
