An official “Gazette” issued to-day contains the following amongst other announcements ; —The Marquis of Twccddalc anl Lord He ay (Peers of Scotland) and' Earl Howth (an Irish Peer) have been created Peers of Parliament, and will thus rake seals in the House of Lords. Sir William Vernon Harcourt (Home Secretary), Sir F. Johnstone. M.P., for Weymouth ; Sir D. C. Marjoribauks, M.P. for Berwick, and Mr Lupon (.s/c) have been rat sod to the Peerage of the United Kingdom.

The MarketsConsols have advanced and are now Dili}. New Zealand securities arc firm at last quotations. Adelaide wheat ex warehouse lias advanced to oils, and New Zealand wheat, ex ship, 58s. Adelaide flour, ex warehouse, is quoted at 425, being an advance of Gd. Australian tallow is unchanged : best beef, 3Gs, best mutton 38s. At the wool sales to-day 1500 ; bales were catalogued. Ihe lone of luc sa e was linn. For combing there is more demand at a slight improvement.

Earthquake. CoXSTAXTIXOPLE, August 20. Intelligence has been received that very severe shocks of earthquake have boon experienced at Tehesmo, a maritime village in Asia Minor, opposite the island of Chois, which suffered so severely from a similar visitation in April last. The shocks felt at Tchcsme have been most disastrous, great destruction of property, accompanied with loss of life, having resulted.
