[Per Times Special Wide.] Stress of Weather. New Plymouth, August 20. The steamer Tui is talcing shelter under the lee of Cape Egmont, but the sea is now subsiding. Steamer Ashore. ■ The steamer Clyde ran on a sandbank at Opunakc on Thursday, owing to the rough weather. No damage was done. She is not off yet. Bad Advice. Te Whiti, at a private meeting with the Chiefs, disputes Government’s right to confiscate the land on the seaward side of the road, and urges the Maoris to fence their cultivation on that land. So it is likely fencing will be resumed in a day or two. Better News-for Mrs Chapman. Dunedin. Aug. 20. The amount of Mrs Chapman’s legacy was not correct in telegram yesterday. It is £30,000.
