The promoters have great confidence in placing the shares of this Society before the public, as without a single exception every siim’ar Society which has been formed has been enabled to pay the Shareholders a large dividend. The business which has been offered to the promoters is that of Mr Joseph Clayton, which is now carried on in Timaru. ' It is proposed to retain Mr Clayton’s services as Manager upon terms to be hereafter arrang- d. The Store, which can bo obtained at a vciy low rental, has ample accommodation for carrying on a large business. The chief advantages of the Society arc that it gives to the Sbareholdrcs the opportunity of obtaining all groceries, drapery, coal, firewood, etc,, at wholesale prices, and an equal participation in all the profits, estimated at not less than 12 per , cent. The transactions of the Society will be conducted for cash only, thus avoiding all bad debts incident to the credit system of carrying on business. Members can arrange for deposit accounts being opened with the Society such ac counts carrying interest at the rate of £8 per cent, per annum on all sums over £1 deposited for a period of not less than three months. It is proposed as the capital; of the Society increases to establish Branch Stores in other parts of the town. The Society will be conducted by a Board of Directors chosen by the Shareholders at their first meeting. All applications for shares must be sent by post to or left with the manager yin; frm (Mr J. Clayton), Main South road, Timaru, on or before Saturday, August 27, 1881. Forms of application for shares and all information in reference to the Society can be obtained at Mr J. Clayton’s Store, Main South road, Timaru. A meeting of Shareholders and others favorable to the movement will be held on MONDAY, August 22, for the purpose of electing Board of Directors and other business.
