GRAVING DOCK FOR PORT CHALMERS.

WIvLUXGTOX. Allg. 11. A deputation waited on the Premier to-day asking for assistance in constructing a new dock at Port Chalmers. The following comprised' the deputation : —Messrs Larnach, Ross, limes, R. Dick, and K. Ramsay. The following members of both Houses were present Captain Fraser, Hon Mr Holmes, Messrs DeLautour, Barron, Stewart, Thompson, Oliver, Brown, Fulton, Macandrew, Bastings, Jones, MeCaughan, Murray, Pyke, Reynolds, Hon Mr Dick. Mr Larnach, in urging Government to grant concessions, said that with a view to direct steam communication with London being established, a much larger dock was necessary, Mr Ramsay mentioned that the estimate o! the cost of the new dock would bo about £70,000, but he thought it could he constructed for £IO,OOO less. After Messrs Larnach and Reynolds had spoken as to the absolute necessity of the dock, the Premier said he would like to have their financial proposals in writing. SeveraljOthers having made a few remarks, the Premier said ho would lay their propoals before the Cabinet, and give an early reply.
