THE PRICE OF GAS.
[TO TIIK KDITOIt.] Sin, —Would yon allow me to correct a slight error in your report of the Borough Council meeting held on Monday, the 9th inst. In it I am reported to have said that Timan was supplied with gas at a cheaper rate than any town in the colony. What I did say was that the Timaru Borough lamps were lit at less cost per lamp than in any other town where the gas is supplied hy a private company. Ami that statement 1 am prepared to substantiate. On the question of cost to private consumers, I am of opinion that the rate is too high, and am in favor of of its being reduced, believing that any loss the. company may sustain bj r a reduction in price would ho amply covered by the extra consumption that would result. —Yours, &0., J. IS. GIBSON.
