THEATRE ROYAL.

The success of Mr Cary’s company in Timaru has been a most pronounced one, and there can be no doubt that, tho “ Pirates of Penzance ” has been a very great bit. The piece was produced for the third time last evening and went better than ever, encores being more numerous than on either of the previous evenings. Mr Cary, who made such a favorable impression as “ The Pirate King,” was last night prevented from appearing, owing to his suffering from a severe cold, but it is probable that he will appear again this evening. Owing to this a slight change in the cast was necessary, and Mr Wentworth enacted the “ Pirate King,” Mr Barry O’Neil appearing as “ the modern MajorGeneral.” The Policemen, led by Mr Sergeant Benhum, Al, were received on entering with a tremendous round of applause, and largely contributed as on former occasions to the success of the performance. Between the first and second acts Mr Cary took the opportunity of appearing before the curtain to thank the Timaru public for tho liberal support they had accorded him. A general desire having been expressed, he said, that the Company should give a performance of “ Pinafore,” he had made arrangements, at the risk of disappointing the Oamaruites, to stay here one night longer, and this evening to produce “ Pinafore ” and tho first act of “ Tho Pirates ” as well.

Such a bill, especially as this will be positively the last night of the Company’s appearance here, should draw a packed house.
