THE VICTORIA CROSS.
Three worthy recipients of the Victoria Cross, Sergeant Mullane, of the Horse Artillery, who at lUaiwand went in the face of the enemy, only fifteen yards away, to save a comrade, and afterwards ventured into cottages by the wayside to get water fortho wounded ; Gunner
James Gollis, who actually ma le himself a mark for the enemv to divert their attack from his wounded comrades ; and Lance-corporal Joseph Farmer, who at Majufaa Hill, whilst holding up the white flag for the protection of the wounded, was shot in the arm, but simply remarked that he “ bad another. ” and with that held the flag until it was shot through. These brave fellows have just received the much-coveted trophy.
