GOOD TEMPLARY.
The quarterly meeting of the English Lodge Victory, No. 42, 1.0.G.T., was held last evening at the Foresters’ Hall. There was a fair attendance of members present, and the chair was occupied by Bro J. Blackmore, W.C.T. After the opening ceremonies, Bro E. Jones, on behalf of the Entertainment Committee, stated that it had been decided to hold a grand conversazione at the Oddfellows Hall, Barnard street, on Monday evening, August 15. A large number of tickets were then distributed to the members, who kindly under took to dispose of the same as quickly as possible. Bro Jones also stated that he had received a letter from the G.W.C.T. Wellington, intimating that the Grand Worthy Secretary was shortly to visit officially the lodges in the South Island, and requested that preparations be made to receive him at Timaru. A reply had been sent asking him to be present at the coming conversazione, as the presence of an executive officer at that juncture would probably be beneficial to the interests of the English order in this locality. The Lodge Deputy reported that a numberof names for subscriptions to the fund being raised for the visit of the head of the Order in England, Bro Joseph Malins, R.W.G.T., had been handed in, and that the list would close on August 15. The reports of the various officers for the past term were then read and heartily approved. The following members were duly installed as office-bearers for the next term, Bro W. C. Silverton acting as installing officer :—W.C.T., Bro Thomas Tichbon ; W.V.T., Bro Turner ; W.S., Bro E. Jones : W F.S., Bro J. Saxon ; W.T., Bro J. Reid ; W.C., Bro Richards; W.M., Bro F. The several officers having relumed thanks for their election, a vote of thanks was accorded to the retiring officers, which was duly responded to by the P.W.C.T. The W.C.T. then appointed the Sick,Visiting, and Finance Committees for the next terra. After indulging a short time in harmony, the Lodge closed at 9.45 p.m.
