DARING ROBBERY OF GOLD AND SILVER.

SECOND EDITION

[By Telegraph.] Wanganui, August 1. A box containing £4OO in gold and silver, called in from circulation, was stolen from the Storm Bird. The box, which was consigned from the Bank of New Zealand here to the Bank in Melbourne, via Wellington, was placed on Board on Saturday afternoon, and taken . charge of by the chief officer, who locked it in his cabin and last evening found it missing. Captain Dawson was not aware the box was on board till informed of the robbery. The silver, though old, is current and cashable. No clue exists at present to the whereabouts of the thief or the stolen property.
