THE SULTAN’S MURDERERS.

The Constantinople correspondent of the “Times,” telegraphed at the beginning of June, says that though the Sultan had hesitated to make a public enquiry concerning the death of Abdul Aziz because of the disclosures which would be made, he has decided that the trial shall be proceeded with, the arrest of Midhat Pasha confirming this. According to the ‘ Yakyt,’ thirteen persons are to be tried for the assassination of Abdul Aziz. Five of them, who are believed to he the instigators of the crime, are men of high official rank—namely, Mahmed Eushdi Pasha, who was Grand Yizier; Midhat Pasha, who was President of the Council of State ; Sultan’s two brothers-in-law, Mahmoud and Nonri; and Hassan Khairullah, who was Sheikh-ul-Ishra. The last named is at present on a pilgrimage, and will be tried by a tribunal of Ulema at Mecca. Tbe other influential members of the Cabinet are since dead, two of them having been assassinated by the Circassian Hassan. The more obscure persons accused are Fabri, who was second chamberlain to tbe late Sultan, and more recently a provincial subgovernor ; Izzet Ali and Mejib officers of the army ; Mustafa, a sergeant; Mustafa, a professional wrestler and two palace watchmen, who were bribed, it is said, by a promise of a monthly salary of £IOO each.
