A _ special meeting of the Levels Eoad board was held to-day, when it was resolved to levy a rate of eightpence in the £ on the valuation list for the year 1831, payable in o'o sum on or before the first day of August, 1881. The Patea “Mail ” calls attention to the case of a married'woman who, surrounded h y five helpless children is dying by inches 1 a destitution due to a drunken thricercauied husband and the want of a female ward in the hospital. This is shameful.
