HOME OPINION.
“ Anglo-Australian ” says, in the last issue of the “ European Mail ” : “ There is a general relief at finding that New Zealand is pluckily pulling through her difficulties. It was not so long ago that there were croakers here by the thousand, who were anticipating her collapse. For myself, I have always held on to the belief that if the colonists are true to .themselves they cannot help but* prosper. It is a fine country, with lots of resources,, and must go ahead. I am, therefore, glad to note that on the whole the revenue returns for the last financial year-look healthy, and that the property tax is being willingly paid. Revenue must be had for the purpose of Government, and a property tax is better than hampering the Customs’ dues. It is a good sign too that the railways are earning per cent on their capital.”
