The English, Scottish, and Australian Chartered Bank has declared a dividend of 4 per cent for the past halfyear, and carried forward £4OOO to the reserve fond. The Irish Land Commissioners. In the House of Commons to-day, Mr Gladstone announced that the Irish Land Commission had been appointed and would consist of the following members :—Lord O Hagan, (Loi'd Chancellor of Ireland); Mr E. F. Litton (Member for Tyrone) ; and Mr Yergon, land agent. Very general suprise is expressed at the names of the members of the Irish Land Commission. In the House of Commons to day a question was put to the Premier with the view of ascertaining the intention of the British G-overnment in regard to th® present state of affairs in Tunis. In reply Mr Gladstone stated that diplomatic communications were passing between the Foreign Office and the French Government in reference to Tunisian affairs, and some decision would shortly be arrived at as to what action, if any,is to be taken by England.

The Arabs are TroublesomePaeis, July 19. Telegrams have been received to-day from Tunis, reporting that notwithstanding the success of the French troops at Sfax, the insurgents, encouraged by the inactivity recently manifested by the Tunisian forces, are daily increasing in boldness, and are raiding the country in all directions. To-day bodies of armed and mounted Arabs approached to within a short distance of the city in their predatory incursions, and news to hand from outlying districts reports that the revolt is still spreading, and that the Arabs are rising to arms in large numbers.
