TIMARU WORKING MAN’S LEAGUE AND POLITICAL UNION.

A number of delegates from Tiraaru proceeded yesterday to Temuka for the purpose of taking initiatory steps towards the formation of a branch of the Association in that town. A public meeting was held in the evening at the Volunteer Hall, Mr J. M. Ollivier in the chair. Mr Board man was introduced by the Chairman to the meeting, and briefly addressed those, present on the objects of the League. Mr Partridge read a paper on political economy, after which Mr McPherson adddressed the meeting. Mr J. Mendelson enquired whether the movement had been organised to set labor against capital. Mr Boardraan replied empathically that it had not. The great object aimed at was the proper representation of the people in Parliament, and the inauguration of a healthier system. It was resolved that a branch of the League be opened at Temuka, and the following Committee was appointed : Messrs J. Ollivier, D. Leech, G. Bolton, E. Lee, Harrop, Derrick, O’Brien, Blyth, Fisher, Gibbs, McGuinness, Dunsford, Bosnian, and Dogherty. Mr A. Fisher was appointed Secretary, audit was resolved that the first meeting should take place on Wednesday evening next. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to tbe Chairman and delegates.
