POLITICAL.

Tte following was telegraphed by the “Lyttelton Times” correspondent at Wellington : There is every probability that the debate on Mr Sheehan’s motion for leave to introduce a Bill to Repeal the Aboli. tion of Province Act will take place on Tuesday. The division is expected to be very close. A leading article appeared in this morning’s “New Zealand Times ” indicating the probability of a Bill being introduced to Repeal the Triennial Parliaments Acts. Amongst those behind the scenes this is quite understood as being introduced to avert the public mind from the questions of local selfgovernment and redistribution of seats. With respect to the latter there is not much probability of it passing this session, nor is it believed there is any intention on the part of the Government that it should. With respect to the former the division on Mr Sheehan’s motion will decide the feeling of the House. If affirmed, both Mr, Hall’s and Sir George Grey’s propositions will fall to the ground, Mr Sheehan’s motion being clearly aimed at arriving at a direct expression of opinion as between a return to Provincialism and the retention of the existing form of Government.
