THE SMALL-POX IN SYDNEY.
Sydney, July 9,
The fresh cases of small-pox which have occurred during the past few days have renewed the alarm. There are now about 12 infected houses in the city and suburbs, each being guarded by a constable. Government are taking every step to prevent the spread of the disease, and with that object have decided to appoint a Board of Health, with power to act in cases of emergency. It is proposed to erect a small pox hospital forthwith. Two more cases of small-pox, one of a man at Glebe, and the other of a girl of eleven old in Sussex street, have been reported. The girl’s case is supposed to be the worst attack ever seen. Her face is thickly covered with pustules, the disease having reached the fifth day of eruptic stage.
