THE TRANSVAAL.

[By Cable,]

London, July 15

A debate took place in the House of Lords to-day regarding the Transvaal settlement. In the course of the discussion, Earl Kimberley, Secretary of State for the Colonies, announced that a certain force of British troops will remain in the Transvaal for the enforcement of the decisions which may be arrived at by the Eoyal Commission now sitting. His Lordship further states that, if necessary, such Commission would be appointed to adjudicate on any claims for compensation which may be put forward by those who remained loyal during the war, and that in consideration of such claims natives would not be overlooked.
