DEATH IN THE MILK.
Two cases of typhoid fever have oc* curred recently in Christchurch on premises well drained and very clean. The origin puzzled the doctor, and he found that the same milkman supplied both families. Two or three days ago a serious outbreak of typhoid occurred at the Asylum, one of the attendants dying immediately. It was found the same milkman supplied the whole of the Asylum, and on examining his premises they were found in a filthy condition, leaving no doubt that the milk had spread tne infection. There are several cases of tyhoid about town, and at the Asylum it is really alarming.
The supply of milk from this dairy has been stopped, and vigorous measures taken by the use of disinfectants, &c. The Local Health Officer has for some time been urging the Board to obtain sanitary control over dairies, but a great outcry has been raised, and nothing hitherto done. This is an eye-opening result.
