It has transpired that, under instructions from tho Admiralty, tho Detached Squadron is duo at Fiji on August IS.
Nothing definite bus transpired as to the result of tho interview which took place on Saturday between the Premier and tho Governor, when the former recommended His Excellency to grant a dissolution.
Mr Hartley Williams has been ottered the Judgeship and accepted it. His Honor was sworn in to-day. His Royal Highness Prince Albert Victor of Wales laid the foundation stone of the Melbourne cricket pavilion to-day. It has transpired that at the interview which the Hon Graham Berry had with the Governor on Saturday he presented a memorandum asking for a dissolution of Parliament. It is, however, believed
that His Excellency will decline to accede to the request. It has transpired that Government have offered the Agent-Generalship in London to Mr C. H. Pearson, member for Oastleraaine. Mr Pearson has, however, declined to accept the post.
