Fire Clay, and an excellent Chalk is likewise found in large quantities, and is pronounced by competent authority to be eminently adapted for pottery and sanitary pipes, gas retorts, firebricks, &c. The Coal is easily obtained, and is of the finest quality for household and manufacturing purposes, and iis superiority for the production of gas, and for steam purposes, has been proved by reliable tests, As this Coal is admitted to be a really good Coal for steaming purposes, it is proposed' to’have constant supplies in depots, so that the public can always get Vvhat they may require. Building Stone is found on the property, and Marble within a few chains, of a very superior description, also abounds, The Building Stone is a fine white stone, easily worked, and does not disintegrate from exposure to weather, some quantity oi this stone having b-:en used in the building ,of the Christchutch Cathedral. A large quantity of good Timber is ip close proximity .to the ground, and easily obtainable. The Coal has been tried for steam purposes, and found to answer admirably, as the following testimonials show:— “Timaru, Nov. 29, 1880. “ To Mr George Meredith, Kakahu. “ Sib,—l have used the coal supplied by' you from the Kakahu coal mine (about five tons) in my mill in Timaru, and found it most . satisfactory, and consider the coal well adapted to be used for steam purposes. Allen.” “ Eclipse Brewery, 44 Temuka, Nov. 1,1880. 44 To Mr George Meredith, Kakahu. • 41 Sib, —I have used the coal supplied by you from your coal mine, Kakahu, for my steam engine, mixing it with Newcastle coal, half and half.- I found it answer admirably, much better than Newcastle coal alone.
