ST MARY’S PARISH MEETING.
A meeting in connection with the St. Mary’s Church was held at 4.30 yesterday afternoon at the Foresters’ Hall, George street, the object of such meeting being to consider certain proposals made by the vestry with regard to the erection of of a parsonage on the site of the school church. The Yen. Archdeacon Harper presided. Mr Belfield read tlie following recommendations of the Vestry'. 1. That Mr G. G. Russell’s mortgage on sections 242 and 244, Theodocia street, £IOOO at 8 per cent, due in August, 1883, should be paid off.
2. That Mr G. G. Russellsand Mr HJ. LeCren’s offer to lend £2OOO at 7 per cent for six years, secured by mortgage over aforesaid sections be accepted. 3. That £IOOO be appointed for paying of Mr G. G, Russell’s mortgage, and £IOOO for building a parsonage, fencing outhouses, &c., on said sections. The recommendations were approved and adopted. In reply to a question, the Chairman said that the Vestry were not responsible for the delay of the building of the church. The architect, Mr Armson, was responsible for the delay. So soon as he forwarded the plans, tenders would be called at once for the work.
Several present thought that Mr Armson should be remonstrated with on the delay he was causing, and one or two suggested that his services should be dispensed with. The meeting shortly afterwards terminated, and at a Yestry meeting afterwards, Mr J. Wilson was appointed architect for the new parsonage house.
