An extraordinary accident occu r -d on the St. Gothard road. The driver had omitted to screw down the brake, and the carriage, with four passengers, rushed down the incline, and fell into the gorge of the K uss. more than 300 ft, where it was smashed into a thousand pieces. Three of the passengers wore uninjured, and the fourth, though badly huit, escaped with his life.
