CANTERBURY CORN EXCHANGE,

Report for the week ending Friday, June 10 ! Business in the grain trade continues extremely quiet, values in nearly all classes of produce are unaltered. Wheat—The fi m tone of the market is still maintained, although prices have not advanced.' Good sound milling (Tuscan) worth from 3s 91 to 3s 10J ; pearl and Velvet chaff, 3s 8d to 3s 91 ; Hunter’s white, 3s 6d to 3s 7d per bushel j seconds,' lit for milling, 2s Gd to 2s 8i ; chick wheat, Is 6d to 2s 6d per bushel. Oats—The strong upward tendency which has been, visible lately is not maintained, and the anticipated demand has not been realised. Prices, however, have not retrograded, and remain at last week’s quotations, viz., for bright milling, Is lid to 2s, f.0.b.; feed quality,. Is 8d to Is lOd. Barley—A few small sales have been effected during during the week, but there is no perceptible change in values, and on the whole the market cannot be said to be improved. Prime malting, 2s 9d to 3s 3d; fair to medium, 2s 3d to 2s Gd. Potatoes.—The market is in a very mercurial state, and is like the barometer, much influenced by the weather. Prices this week are a shade lower than last,. 27s Gd to 30s, at country stations being the figures at which business has been done. Grass Seed.—There is little or no business doing at present, but prices are extremely firm. Well cleaned farmers samples from 4s Gd to 5s per bushel; indifferently cleaned, according to sample. Cocksfoot, 8d to 4Jd per lb. Cheese ’ and Butter.—The former, 8d to to 3Jd; the latter, 8d to Bjd. Hay, £2 10b to £2 15s per ton. London, June 7. At the wool sales to-day 7800 bales were offered. A firm and active demand ..was experienced. The present series of auctions close on the Ist July. June 8. The Otago Harbor Works loan of £IOO,OOO was placed in the market to-day. June 9. Consols remain at cx dividend. New Zealand securities are unchanged. 5 pet cent 10.40, loan is at 105 ; 5 per cent 1839 loan, 105; 4J per cent 18791904 loan, 103,, Bank rate of discount is unchanged at 2J per cent, and the market rate Is. The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is £14,800,000. Adelaide wheat, ex warehouse, 48s ; New Zealand wheat, 45s ; Adelaide flour ex warehouse, 33s Gd ; Australian tallow, best beef, per cwt., 35s ; best mutton, 37s Gd. At the wool sale to-day 11,400 bales were offered, and prices showed a hardening tendency. 9000 bales have been withdrawn from the sale during the opening, Adelaide, June 10. Wheaf, 4s Bd. The market is very quiet. Town flour, £ll 5s ; country brands, £lO 5s to £lolos. Freights to London, steamer and sailing 33s freights to United Kingdom from Adelaide, 35s ditto from outports, 37s Gd. There has been but little doing in freights during the week. Sydney, June 10.
