MELBOURNE MARKETS. M’Gregor, Gordon and Co., report for the week ending May 25, 1881. Brcastufls — Great excitement 'prevails in the market and the publication of the Government Statists’ auricultura 1 . returns showing an actual deficiency as compared with requirements to the end of the year has led to speculation, Wheat is scarce and has advanced to 5s 9Ad with ap upward tendency. Flour is at £l2 ;we shall have to look to New Zealand and Adelaide or supplies Barley—English, since the commencement of the malting* season has advanced to 3s 7d, and at this figure we have done a good business. Enquiries have also set in for parcels in bond- from New Zealand at 3s 3i. Cape and Oregan, for, feed purposes. we have sold at. 2s 8d to 2s 9d. ; prices are ad vancing. l ' ■ Oats continue firm, and. with all other feeding grains, are getting scarce. We have sold good feed at 2s Del, and 2s lOd’-f medium at 2s 7d. Milling duty paid, we have sold at 3s 6d. : Peas are at 3s 3d. ' ■ Bran IsOJd. ■ ■ ! Maize, 3s Bd.

Grass Seeds. —We hare disposed of 27,000 lbs. cocksfoot for the : London market at a satisfactory figure, audsmall parcels, ex store, at 4d. Butter, Potted.—All new parcels sold to-day at 9d. Prime old, 74d. Good, lots 1 at 6d. Medium, at 4d. Inferior, at 2d. The market is bare of prime and good qualities, and we are very short of supplies. Butter, Fresh,—Supplies 1 to hand are small, priecs for the best dairies- are at Is 2d and Is 3£d > to-day we sold at these rates—Good, at lOd and Is; medium, at 9d; no inferior to band. We could dispose of many more tons at the same rates.
