ELOPEMENT EXTRAORDINARY

(“ Auckland Star" June 2,)

A remarkable instance of ill-requitted love, masculine duplicity, and sisterly craft and bard heartedness, has been related to us. The wedding was to hare taken place on either Monday or Tuesday this week. On the'previous evening, however, a report gained currency that the bridegroom had deserted his “ fiancee,” and married her younger sister, a girl of 16 years. The rumor created consternation under the family roof tree, and the readiest moans were taken to ascertain its truth or falsity. It was found to ho perfectly correct. On Sunday afternoon the younger girl, who was in the service of a well known bookseller as domestic servant, left for home ; and some time later word was sent that she was ill, The illness resulted in marriage. It had not been for a moment suspected that the younger girl had been on intimate relations with her sister’s lover. She was perfectly cognisant of the arrangements for the marriage, and indeed had been heard to declare more than once that she intended to send sub ros/i as her weddiug present a bassinette. The disappointed girl is, of course, surprised aud grieved beyond measure at the deceit and dissimulation of which she has been the victim, while her parents are righteously indignant. The mother avers that were ’t not for the injury that might bo done her own child she would get the faithless Lothario a long term of imprisonment.
