THE IRISH LAND BILL.
A letter signed “ J{, Ponsonby Llcnnerhasrsctt ” appears iu the London " Times,” wliicli discusses Mr Gladstone’s Land Bill and concludes as follows :—“ A long and arduous Parliamentary struggle is before us, and great forces of resistance will liavo to be overcome before this new charter of the Irish tenant is inscribed upon the Statute-book. I hope before that atruggle has commenced the tenants themselves will have strengthened their cause by the lull force of their enthusiastic and avowed support. As a representative of a large agricultural eonslituoncy in Ireland, I cannot hesitate to say that I have risen from the study of the bill convinced that it is a great and wise measure, which, if it becomes law without mutilation of
its essential features, will place the economic relations which are the foua • dation of Irish society in a healthier, happier, and safer state than they have ever been in before.”
