[Reuter’s Agenov.j Denouncing the Land Bill. London. June 1. In the House of Commons to-day
consideration of the Irish Land Bill in Committee was resumed by Sir Stafford Northcote, who condemned the measure and denounced in strong terms the feebleness of the Irish policy of the Government. No Progress was made with any clauses of the Bill. Suppress the Land LeagueThe London Press, in discussing the present state of affairs in Ireland, are almost unanimous in recommending Government to take steps to completely suppress the Land League. Intelligence from Ireland continues to report serious affrays between the police and the people at various places over the eviction of tenants. The state of the country is daily becoming more disturbed. International Wool show The International Wool show at the Crystal Palace was opened today by the Duke of Connaught in the presence of a vast assemblage of people. In his speech on the occasion, His Royal Highness dwelt at length upon the importance of the staple then on exhibition. The only exhibitors representing the Australinn colonies are Samuel Wilson, of Victoria, and Messrs Fisher and Pitts, of Adelaide. Some of the exhibits are not yet opened, but it is expected that the greater portion will be on view in a fortnight. The awards are to be made in August.
