OAMARU STEEPLECHASES.

—■ -$■ [By Telegraph.] Oamapu, June 2. The following weights have been declared ;

Amongst those who had taken out passages in the Tararua on her last trip from Wellington was Mr Grattan Riggs, the Irish Comedian. He intended proceeding direct to Melbourne, but on arrival at Lyttelton was offered an engagement, which he accepted, and to this fortuitous circumstance is probably indebted for the preservation of his life. We have received the June number of tbe “N, Z. Protestant and Friendly Societies’ Journal.” It is a well got-up publication, and contains a large amount of information particularly interesting to members of the Orange order. The publisher is Mr Alfred Fisher, Tiraaru. Those ladies who have not seen Mrs Fiske, the lady agent for the Davis Vertical Feed Sewing Machine, manipulate the same are recommended to do so. Mrs Fiske is to be seen at Mr T. G. Rowley’s. Mr Dan Lea, who proudly boasts that his well-known Boxing Saloon, adjoining the Grosvenor Hotel, is “ under the patronage of the Prince of Wales and the Shah of Persia,” has an announcement that ought to prove of interest to lovers of the “ noble art,” in another column.
