The following is the report for the week ending Friday, Ma}’ 27 : Extreme quietness lias prevailed in the grain trade during the week, and there is absolutely no change to report in the state or condition of the market. Wheat. —No change has taken place in values, and last week’s quotations are unaltered. Milling samples of Tuscan, 8s 9d to 3s lOd ; pearl and velvet chaff, 3s 6d to 3s 9d ; Hunter’s •white, 3s 6d.- All these quotations are f.o.b. Seed wheats range from 3s lOd to 4s 3d second quality, from Is 6d to 2s 6d per bushel. Oats. —The demand is not so brisk as in preceding weeks, but the tone of the market is firm. Bright milling samples are held for from Is lOd to 2s ; feed quality 1 ', Is 8d to Is 9d ; inferior, feed, 2d per bushel less. Barley—The prospects for holders do not improve ; little or no business is taking place, Very prime malting will find buyers at 3s to 3s 3d ; second rale is exceedingly difficult to move, and prices range between 2s 3d to 2s 9d per bushel. Feed samples are more saleable at from Is 9d to 2s per bushel. Potatoes —The uncertainty as to the value of this article of produce still con tinues, and both growers and dealers are unwilling to do business. Sales have, however, taken place during the week at prices between 30s to 32s 6J at country stations, sacks extra, G-rass Seed—The demand has visibly abated, only an order here and there dropping in. The market, however, is firm. Well cleaned farmers’ samples are saleable from 4s 6d to 5s per bushel ; indifferently cleaned according to sample. Cocksfoot is still in demand ; holders are asking and getting 3d to 3£d per lb. Cheese and Butter—The former is still heavy of sale at from 3d to 3£d per lb; the latter is in betterdemand, and is saleable at from to gd per.lb. Hay-r-iB2 10s to £2 los per ton delivered in Christchurch.
