THE UNION COMPANY.
Dunedin, May 19. A statement having been made that the seamen and firemen saved from the Tararua are in want of assistance, that statement is now denied. Immediately after their arrival from the wreck, each of them received a month’s pay, which was then due, and also a fit-out of clothing. The Union Company supplied clothing to the crew, and those passengers 'requiring it, at a cost of £IOO, together with food and board for a week. The Sailors’ Union also dis tributed over £2O in clothing. The. following are the changes further decided on in the Union Company’s service :—Captain Logan, of the Hero, goes Home to bring out the Manuhiri, Captain McGee, Taiaroa, succeeding him in the Hero. Captain Anderson, late of the Wellington, gets the Taiaroa, Mr Webster, chief officer of the Te Anau, is appointed to the Albion. Captain Jones, now on the Maori, is to be appointed to the Mahinapu, a twin-screw steamer for the West Coast. Mr Mclntosh, chief officer of the Rotorua, succeeds him in the Maori. Captain Orkney, now on a visit Home, is likely to bring out the Omapere, to be employed in the West* port coal trade.
