DESTRUCTIVE FIRE AT ASHBURTON

[By Telegraph.] Ashburton, May 13. A fire broke out at Watt’s Temperance Hotel this morning at two o’clock. It was burnt to the ground in a short time. The fire also caught Baker and Brown’s coach factory, which was also desti’oyed. One lodger in the boarding-house was extricated with difficulty, and was much cut and burnt. Mr and Mrs Watts were absent at the time. Two children were rescued by a lodger. The following was the insurance on the hotel (Baker and Brown, owners): — South British, £3OO, Standard, £3OO ; furniture--Union, £2OO. Factory insurance £250 in the South British ; stock uninsured. The origin of the fire is unknown. Baker and Brown are heavy losers.
