The splendid weather to-day attracted a very l arge gathering to the sports ground, the grand stand being filjedjnith visitors, many of whom were ladies, who appeared to take the keenest interest in the proceedings. The handicap eventi ferae off to day, the most important being the two miles running and (he mile walking races, both of which brought, out some good men. The remaining events were well contested and everything passed off as in the case of yesterday, without a hitch. A start was made about three-quarters of an hour after the proper time, _II o’clock. The strong north-west wind interfered to some extent with the sports, and although the day was much pleasanter than yesterday it was not so well adapted for athletic feats. To-night the annual dinner of the Club will take place at the Ship Hotel at half past six o’clock. The following were the results of the days events up to the time of going to press:— 120yds Hurdle Eace. , C. W. Miles 1 P. N. Eobinson 2 H. G-. Tosswill also competed. Eobinson got well away with the lead, and would have won with the greatest ease had he not unfortunately fallen at the last hurdle, when Miles, seizing his opportunity, shot ahead, and secured first place, Eobinson being a good second. Baker shortly afterwards got on- levelterms * with Mackay, and despite the latter’s strenuous efforts to maintain hispbs’tion, soon passed him and won by twenty yards. 1 His victory was much applauded.
