TIMARU BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above took place last night. Present —His Worship the Mayor, and Councillors Jackson, Cullman, Filmer, Boss, Gahites, Shepherd,{Greenup, and Sherratt. petition. From Messrs J. Meikle, A. Stumbles, H. Green, P. Cunningham and Co., and Murphy and Stock was received, asking the Council to form a footpath in Beswick street and Cain’s Terrace, and channel and kerb the same. The peti tion stated that the water did not at present run away as it should do, but was blocked in hollows. Some of the proprietors on the Terrace were prepared to asphalt the path if formed and kerbed. Received. From Mr J. Bruce, requesting that the Council would give him an entrance to his yard from Grey street, the same having been stopped about thirteen days through the opening of a sewer, and causing him great loss and inconvenience to his business. Resolved—“ That the drain in Grey street be thoroughly repaired, and that Mr Bruce be informed that for any damage and stoppage that has arisen or may hereafter arise consequent on d<rbris collecting near his premises, he will be held responsible.” JIBE. Resolved—“ That Mr Thomas Amos be appointed a Fire Inspector under the provisions of clause 272 of the “ Municipal Corporations Act, 1876,” and that the Town Clerk take the necessary steps to legalise the appointment.” TOWN SECTIONS. A number of tenders were received for the leasing of reserves situate in the Government Township of Timaru, but as none of them were thought satisfactory it was resolved —“ That the tenders for lease of section being considered too low, no tenders be accepted.” MUNICIPAL ENDOWMENT. It was resolved —“ That the Works Committee be requested to prepare terms and conditions for the leasing of the 2000 acres municipal endowment and present them to the next ordinary meeting of the Council.” TENDEBB. The following tenders were received for contract No. 25—Erection of 15 iron flumes, total length about 40 chains : J. Newton. £132114s 6d; J. Watson, £1458 14s 7d ; T. J. Hill, £1426 16s 9d ; R. Forgan, £1750 Is 4d ; R. Sibly. £1400; T. Townson, £1213 4s 6d£d (accepted).
