A HARDSHIP.

[to the EDITOII.] Siu, —AVould you kindly allow me a small space in your valuable paper for a few lines ; by doing so you will greatly oblige. As 1 was one of the applicants for the situation of caretaker of cemetery, I must say that the way in which we were treated by the Commissioners was anything but satisfactory and fair. Applications were invited and were to be in by 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 21. The meeting was adjourned until the following Monday, when three or four members met and opened the applications for the purpose, I am told, of making enquiries with respect of character, so that they might obtain a suitable person. It was then left until the first Monday in the present month, when they came to the conclusion that they were perfectly satisfied with the present custodian, disappointing some twentyfour or live persons eager to obtain employment, independent of trouble and expense, we have had been put to in obtaining testimonials. Now, Mr Editor, if you think this is fair to us working men

I think when the commissioners knew perfectly well the present custodian was willing to accept the slight alterations made by his superiors, that it was a thorough farce all through to attempt to invite applications. There must be a screw or nut loose, and if it is not soon screwed up the family circle must split. 1 am, &c. THE OLD WOMAN.
