COMMERCIAL.

S. C. Times Office, Monday Evening. Messrs William Collins & Co. report holding their regular market and sale by auction at their rooms on Saturday, of produce and general merchandise. The attendance was large and buyers in abundance for all lines submitted to the hammer at the undermentioned figures, which taken all round leave no cause or complaint on owners’ account. They quote Derwent potatoes 60* per ton, per sack 5s 6d, and very few offering. Growers are holding for a further rise, which will tend to make local buyers go to Christchurch for supplies. Oniony Id per lb, market glutted ; fowl,wheat, 6s per sack ; barley for do, 5s ; sound feed oats, Is 6d ; do, all faults, 4s 6d per sack ; farmers’ flour, £7 per ton; b an, 'Bos ; sharps, none offering ; fresh butter—owing to the large quantity off :ring prices declined 2d per lb on previous week’s report; honey, 3d to 4d per lb; cheese, 5d ; bacon, 7d ; lard, 5d ; tallow candles, 6d ; fowls, 2s 6d to 3s 6d per pair ; turkeys, 9s each ; ducks and geese hone. Groceries were in great demand at the following rates: —Tea, 15s to 16s per box ; do, half chests, 60 1 ; sperm candles, B|d; flat tobacco, 4s 6d ; kerosene, 16a per ease; No Co. sugar, 4£d.

Mr Moss Jonas reports as follows Cattle.—Since his last report prices have hardened slightly for all classes of stock, the greatest difference noticeable being in fat cattle. The following are the average prices obtained:—Calves, 15s to 21a; yearlings, 33s to 40s; heifers, £3 12s 6d to £5, and several springers shewing finer breeding at up to £7 10s ; cows, £4 17s 6d to £6; fat cattle, £7 10s to £O. Horses.—No improvement is to be noted In prices. He has sold first-class draught horses at from £22 to £27; medium, £l2 to £18; light, £7 to £l4. Sheep.—Business has been confined to the requirements of the trade, and sales have been effected of 260 merino wethers at 7s, 80 at 7s 6d, 300 at 4s, and 100 crossbreds at 10s.

Pigs.—A. large number have been sold by him at from 8s 6d to 12s Gdfor weaners; young porkers, 19s to £1 3s ; sows in pig, £3 2s 6d and £3 ss; sow and Jitter of seven, £5. Produce.—His sales have be-'-n very successful, and a large quantity of fowls’ corn, flour, &c., have been cleared out at owners’ reserves. Potatoes, 4s to 5s 6d per sack; farmers’ flour, 15s per sack; onions, f d per lb ; fowls’ corn, 4s to 5a 6d per sack ; cheese, 3£d to 4Jd per lb; butter, 9d ; fowls, 2s 6d to 3s 3d per pair; ducks, 3s 6d do; turkeys, 7s to 8s do.
