H. W, Grjrdy, of the “ Atlanta Constitution, ' says that J. Gordon Bennett’s net profits from the “New York Herald” are £150,000 a-year, and that £600,000 has been vainly offered for the paper. We understand that Mr Charles Kaowsley, late traveller for-Sargood Son and Ewing, 1 has taken over the Queen’s Hotel at Christchurch, from Mrs Smith. He will take possession on July 1 next. We wish him every success in his new venture. The settling up in connection with the annual race meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey. Club took place at the Grosvenor Hotel on Saturday evening.
