CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr Wm. Deßenzy, apologising for his absence. From the Bank of New South Wales informing the Board that fixed deposits amounting to £5500 mature on May 1. From Mr Lee enclosing an order on the Board for £9. Resolved —“ That the clerk reply that the person giving the order has no money coming from the Board.” From the Bank of New South Wales, dated March 10, with reference to two dishonored cheques paid in on deposits for contracts let under the Board, Resolved—“ That the clerk acknow ledge receipt with thanks.” From Geo. Purdie and Co, drawing the Board’s attention to the fact that the trees in reserves have been rooted up with pigs. Resolved —“That the clerk reply that the complaint will be attended to ; that the gums planted are not satisfactory, and that unless good trees are planted to the satisfaction of the Board, the balance of contract will be withheld.”
From Mr M. Fitzgerald offering to plant the reserves in the district for 12s per acre less th&n last year. llesolved—“ Tha* the Board leave the arrangement to the overseer.” From Mr N. Longley, with reference to a proposed new road running through his land. Eesolved accompany the overseer and arrange for the road,”
From Mr Samuel Dale, asking permission to place a few cords of firewood at tlie lower end of Forest street. Granted. From Mr Wm. Guilford, requesting the Board to open the road leading to Section 22403. Granted. From A. Cormack and others, requesting the Board to widen and improve the road opposite Pearson’s place. Resolved —“ That the overseer attend to the same.” From E. Gardner and others asking the Board to metal the road near Whittaker’s place. Resolved —“ That the overseer report upon the same.” From Mr Mossman forwarding a resolution with reference to suppressing small birds of destructive habits." Resolved—“ That the Board regrets it does not see its way clear to accede to the resolution.” From Arthur Coles and others asking the Board to form the road leading towards the river bed in Healey’s Township. From Mr Tripp with reference to the transfer of three sections containing 4G3 acres from himself to Mr Barker. Resolved—“ That the Clerk acknowledge the receipt of Mr Tripp’s letter, and inform him that the matter will bo attended to. From Mr Lynch asking the Board to allow him some compensation for extra work in stripping the quarry in Beautiful Valley. Resolved—“ That the sum of £ls be allowed.” From Mrs Robertson dated April 11, applying to rent the house when Mrs Trengrove leaves.—Granted. From Messrs Walker and Clogstoun, asking the Board to metal the road from the station to Hardcastle’s, and stating where broken metal can be found suitable for the purpose. Referred to the overseer. From Messrs Matthews and Trezisc, asking the Board to shingle the cutting near their house. Referred to the overseer. From Mr George Newman, requesting the Board to clear the thistles off the road leading to Rangitata station. Resolved—“ That the overseer attend to the same.” From the same, informing the Board of a broken culvert near to the Rangitata station. Resolved —“ That the overseer attend to it at once.” From Mr Shaw, enclosing a plan of survey of land taken for road to footbridge through Mr Sharp’s section No 18,389. The Overseer’s report was read and the following resolutions passed thereon viz.,—“Road in Martin’s paddock to be done. (2) The Chairman with Overseer to see MrLongley re diversion of road. (3) Immigrants’ cottages when finished to be let by the week and rent paid accordingly. (4) That £5 be allowed to Mr Horgan for 15 chains extra gravelling. (5) Tenders for new bridge near Scobie’s. (6) Tenders for new bridge on Orari road. The poundkeeper presented his book to be inspected by the Board. Accounts to the amount of £692 Is were passed. Proposed by Mr Slack, seconded by Mr Flatman, and carried —“ That all cheques sent to this Board as deposits for contracts be endorsed by the banker as good for one month from date. The Board then adjourned.
